West Shore Construction was founded in 1985 by Chuck Nelms, originally as a residential remodeling and painting company serving the Tampa Bay area. As Florida’s building codes evolved and storm risks increased, our services expanded to meet the growing need for reliable, professionally installed hurricane protection.

Today, hurricane protection is a core focus of our business. We install systems designed to protect homes and commercial properties from high winds, flying debris, and pressure changes associated with tropical storms and hurricanes. Our solutions are selected and installed with Florida Building Code and Miami-Dade testing standards in mind, helping property owners make informed decisions before a storm is approaching.

Founder and owner Chuck Nelms is a Florida State Certified Building Contractor (License #CBC044653) with a long-standing record of professionalism and industry leadership. He is a founding member of the Tampa Bay chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI), a past president of the Contractors and Builders Association Remodelers Council, and one of the first professionals in Florida to earn Certified Remodeler and Certified Graduate Remodeler designations.
